A Portrait Of Yoon Bong Gil, A Young Man With A Determined Expression, Wearing Traditional Korean Clothing. B K STORY: Yoon Bong Gil A Young Man Who Loved Soil And Freedom

Early Life and Revolutionary Beginnings

Yoon Bong Gil was born into a farming family in Hwanghae Province, Korea, in 1898. Witnessing the hardships faced by his fellow farmers under Japanese colonial rule, Yoon developed a deep-seated resentment against the oppressive regime. In 1919, he joined the Donghak Peasant Revolution, an uprising against Japanese rule sparked by the March 1st Independence Movement.

After the revolution was brutally suppressed, Yoon fled to China and joined the Korean independence movement there. In Shanghai, he became involved with anarchist groups and adopted the ideology of anarchism, which advocated for the abolition of all forms of government and the creation of a free and egalitarian society.
