Edmund Kemper was born in California in 1948. He suffered a traumatic childhood, marked by emotional and physical abuse. His father was an alcoholic and gambler, and his mother was emotionally distant. Kemper's parents divorced when he was young, and he was left in the care of his grandparents.

As a teenager, Kemper exhibited disturbing behavior, including torturing animals and setting fires. He was also withdrawn and had difficulty forming relationships. In 1964, at the age of 15, he was arrested for killing his grandparents. He was sent to a psychiatric hospital, where he spent the next six years.

The Co-Ed Murders

After his release from the hospital in 1970, Kemper moved to Santa Cruz, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he met and murdered six young women. His victims were hitchhikers, students, and friends.

Kemper's crimes were particularly brutal. He often strangled his victims, dismembered their bodies, and kept their heads as trophies. He also committed necrophilia with their corpses.

The Investigation

The Santa Cruz police were baffled by the murders. They had no leads and no suspects. However, a year after the first murder, Kemper himself contacted the police. He confessed to the crimes and gave detailed accounts of his actions.

The Trial

Kemper's trial began in 1973. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but the jury rejected his plea. He was found guilty of six counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Kemper in Prison

Kemper has been in prison for over 50 years. He has become a model prisoner and has earned a degree in psychology. He has also participated in numerous interviews and documentaries, providing insights into his crimes and the workings of his mind.

The True Story of the Brutal Co-Ed Butcher is a deeply unsettling and thought-provoking book. It offers a chilling account of serial murder and the complex motivations behind it. Through Kemper's own words, we gain a unique perspective on the mind of a killer.
