Richie Boiardo was born in 1942 in the small town of Rivergate, Ohio. He was the youngest of five children, and his family was poor. But Richie had a love of baseball that burned brighter than anything else. He would spend hours playing catch with his older brothers and dreaming of one day playing in the Major Leagues.

When Richie was 12 years old, he joined the Rivergate Regionals, a local youth baseball league. He quickly became one of the best players on the team, and by the time he was 15, he was starting at shortstop for the varsity team.

In 1960, Richie led the Rivergate Regionals to their first ever state championship. He was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and he was offered a scholarship to play baseball at Ohio State University.

Richie had a successful career at Ohio State, and he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1964. He made his Major League debut in 1965, and he went on to play for 12 seasons in the big leagues.

Richie was a three-time All-Star, and he won a Gold Glove Award in 1972. He was known for his outstanding fielding and his ability to hit for power. He was also a popular player with fans, who loved his hustle and determination.

Richie retired from baseball in 1976, and he returned to Rivergate to coach the Regionals. He led the team to another state championship in 1980, and he was inducted into the Rivergate Regionals Hall of Fame in 1985.
